Of course you’ll not notice this on low poly stuff and such and of course it takes time to know about new possible quirks and bottlenecks when using Nitrous.” Brazil 3.0 ” software is a pack of tools, applications and libraries which aims to simplify the work in fields such as scientific research, engineering and digital art. Max 2014 changed a lot on the interns and Nitrous performs WAY better than anything ever was possible in D3D mode. And i have to say all people sticking with old versions and talking that theres nothing in the newer versions that would make an upgrade worthy ( besides prevented by real upgrade-stoppers like pipeline restrictions or missing plugin compatibility ) really have no clue what improvements they miss. I just started using 2011 as my main production tool about a 1-2 yrs ago ( prior was a die-hard Max 2009 defender, and before that long-time swore on Max 8 ) and switched from 2011 to 2014 in the last half year ( as Max 2012/2013 were too whacky versions for me - b’cause of the early Nitrous generation). But as soon as you came over that ( and accepted the new Appframe ) it will be the other way arround: starting old Max versions will give you the impression of a lesson in computer history Max 2014 is superior to 2013 in any means, most certainly performance wise.Īnd i have to say all the Max 9/2010 romantism is mostly because of the clumsy-like feeling Appframe, Jewel icon and ribbon introduction that came with 2011. Could be interesting if they start implementing an option for “touch” capability to these “newer” versions.įYI, here’s Autodesk comparison chart from 2011 - 2014 (you can tell they are really trying to promote 2014…but it’s probably the best of the four: Artist has been slowly appealing to Cintiq’s or other tablet monitors. One beneficial use for “newer” versions of these Autodesk products that I’m excited to try is Mudbox 2014’s multi-touch capability. Other users could have different needs so it depends what strengths in the version you want to utilize (nitrous, iray, etc) for some. I’m a game artist/animator so some newer processes/features could benefit like DX 11 support in 2014 but not much else.
So these newer 3ds max versions aren’t really a big “noticeable” improvement on what my day to day normal tasks are. I don’t render much in Max besides Mental Ray…and I use 3rd party ones like Vray (used to use Brazil). Scriptspot and other sites helped make Max 9+ way ahead of it’s time and was very stable too. I do like some of the recent features the “peel” and “pelt” but 3rd party plugins back in the days were way ahead of it’s time. I’d like to try some of the newer features in 2014 but don’t feel the need to. I’m using 2013 now and that has crashed more than I remember Max 9 or 2010 has.
